PAKENHAM’S refurbished Living and Learning Centre (LLINC) is shaping up, and expected to be officially launched during Adult Learners Week in September.

In 2009 the centre enrolled 533 people into programs, as well as providing activity and meeting rooms for eight community groups.

The renovations will double the vocational training delivery to the community within the next five years.

The redesign of the internal space and additional large activity room increases the capacity of the building to house 260 students at one time.

LLINC public officer John Goff said the building in Henry Street had undertaken a complete transformation after receiving government grants of almost $500,000.

“We wanted to maximise our space for vocational training,” he said.

“We wanted to compete in a way that made sure that it was a friendly place for people to come and learn without being too corporate.”

He said the aim of the refurbishment was to double training over the next five years.

LLINC manager Bronwyn Flemming said it was important to grow, as there was no TAFE in Pakenham for locals to attend.

“It needs to be a place that people are comfortable to come to,” she said.

“We just can’t wait for the official launch.”
