IMMACULATELY restored vintage bikes will roar around the Broadford motorbike circuit over the Easter weekend.
The colourful parade, in its second year, will also be a tribute to former road race champion Ken Blake, who was killed in a racing accident on the Isle of Man in 1981.
Broadford resident Ron Angel, an Australian 500cc champion in the 1960s, will ride the bike Blake raced before going to Europe to compete.
Angel has beautifully prepared the famous Coca-Cola Yamaha TZ350, which he sponsored during Blake’s racing days.
Angel is the founder of Ron Angel Holdings, an accessory house and helmet importer, and is now semi-retired and concentrates on restoring bikes.
Several other classic bikes will also be paraded at the bonanza, including a 250 race Honda and a single cylinder Benelli 250.
The event on 3 and 4 April will feature two days of non-competitive action on the road race, motocross, speedway, dirt track, trials and enduro courses.
Four-time American 250cc National Championship winner Gary Jones will be a guest at the event, and will ride the Honda Elsinore 250 on which he won his 1974 championship.
He’ll also compete in the 2010 Australian Classic Motocross Championship at Broadford on 9 and 10 April.
Angel said last year’s inaugural event was a big success, with thousands of spectators, but is expecting more entries and crowd members this year.
“If it gets off the ground it will be a pretty big yearly event,” he said.
Other events happening on the weekend will include a show ‘n’ shine, swap meet, and a gala dinner on the Saturday night. Anyone with protective gear and an old bike is invited to enter the event.
