IT WAS semi-final time in the Williamstown and District Cricket Association but the heavens had no qualms about putting an end to play on day one, which all but made day two unplayable.
Wyndham Vale faced off with Grand United at Parsons Reserve with the former batting first.
The Vales managed 3/72 before the rain came down.
In the other game West Newport played Laverton at Loft Reserve with West Newport winning the toss and opting to bat.
West Newport dropped a few wickets before the rain came down with its total at 5/75 off 30 overs.
WDCA senior administrator Bill Taylor said the rain had made the turf pitches unsuitable for play.
“The A turf at Grand United was called off and Grand United progressed through to the grand final,” he said on Sunday afternoon.
“The A turf at West United, they are waiting. They will have a look at the wicket and make a decision.
“If they don’t play then West Newport will go through to the grand final.”
The clash at Loft Reserve was eventually abandoned with West Newport to face off against Grand United this weekend.
