REBECCA Simoni is only 20, but already a veteran in the music scene.
She teaches singing at the Arts Collective in Spotswood and has travelled to Indonesia with a range of children’s productions. Now, she’s venturing into the dance scene.
“I’ve always sort of written lyrics and poems and things like that, but only recently I’ve started putting music to it,” Rebecca said.
But she’s not limiting herself to one style.
“I want to leave my doors open to a lot of different career opportunities. I like to be in the nightclub scene doing the dance music. Then I like to do a lot of acoustic and band work as well,” she said.
Rebecca said for her the most difficult thing about the music industry was getting noticed.
“I try not to think about not succeeding, I try to think about the way I can get out there the most,” she said.
She said her family have always been supportive and pushing her to succeed.
“My mum is a big inspiration to me. I look up to a lot of artists, they are all big on variety as well. But mainly, family is a big inspiration to me,” she said.
She is now collaborating with an Italian DJ and also a Melbourne DJ on two different dance tracks, which are both due to be released in the next few months.
“There are so many talented people that are trying to do exactly the same thing, trying to hit the industry as well,” she said.
“Because it’s such a hard industry, you just have to show people your work and also prove yourself to the public.”
